Run the interest schedule

interest is charged on the beginning balance — point it at the prior year's ending debt and the rest of the schedule rolls itself.
The credit committee meets Thursday and the interest schedule that feeds the P&L is still empty. The facility opens each year where it closed, mandatory amortization takes the paydown the credit agreement requires, the optional prepayment takes what the borrower elected on top, and cash interest accrues on the beginning balance at the base rate plus the credit spread. Roll the debt across the five years, run the interest, and land the coverage line the covenant is tested against.

The shortcuts in this drill
Alt walks: tap Alt, release, then the letters in sequence — each key steps one ribbon menu. On a Mac, tap and use the same letters (KeyTips, Excel 2024+).
Shift+→⇧→ on macExtend selection one cell
Nudge a selection one cell at a time when the block you need doesn’t end at a data edge.
Ctrl+R⌘R on macFill right from the cell to the left
Same as fill down, but across — one quarter’s formula becomes the whole year in two keystrokes.
Ctrl+B⌘B on macBold
Bold marks structure: titles, total rows, anything the reviewer’s eye should land on first.
Alt h b p⌥ h b p on macTop border
Top border above a total row — the accounting ruling that says “this line sums the ones above.”
Alt h 9⌥ h 9 on macRemove a decimal place
Strip decimals — share counts and headcounts don’t want cents.
Shift+↓⇧↓ on macExtend selection one cell
Ctrl+S⌘S on macSave
functions you'll type: SUM()
The optimal line
the par-setting sequence, straight through:
C8 =SUM(C5:C7) · D5 =C8 · fill ctrl+r · ctrl+b + alt h b p · C11 =C5*($C$15+$C$16) · C12 =C10/C11 · alt h 9 · ctrl+r · ctrl+s
