Build the debt & interest block

every tranche is the same sentence — open, move, close — so the second facility is the first one copied, not typed again.
The credit agreement signed this morning and the debt block is the one page the model does not have. Treasury has already fed the term loan amortization and the revolver draws off the cash flow forecast, and the pricing came in on the commitment letter. Roll both facilities out across the plan, run the interest each one accrues, and land the two rows the balance sheet and the income statement pull — total debt and total interest.

The shortcuts in this drill
Alt walks: tap Alt, release, then the letters in sequence — each key steps one ribbon menu. On a Mac, tap and use the same letters (KeyTips, Excel 2024+).
Shift+↑⇧↑ on macExtend selection one cell
Alt h f c⌥ h f c on macFont color
Font color: blue inputs, black formulas — the oldest convention in banking models, still enforced.
Ctrl+R⌘R on macFill right from the cell to the left
Same as fill down, but across — one quarter’s formula becomes the whole year in two keystrokes.
Ctrl+C⌘C on macCopy
Copy starts almost every hand-off — grab a finished block once, then place it in the summary, the deck, or next quarter’s column.
Ctrl+V⌘V on macPaste
Plain paste brings everything: values, formulas, formats. Reach for Paste Special when you only want part of it.
Alt h b p⌥ h b p on macTop border
Top border above a total row — the accounting ruling that says “this line sums the ones above.”
Ctrl+S⌘S on macSave
The optimal line
the par-setting sequence, straight through:
type 6.5% at C9 and 4.9% at C14 · alt h f c →×4 blue · D8 =D6+D7 · D9 =D6*$C9 · E6 =D8 · fill E6:H6 → and D8:H9 → · copy D8:H9 → paste at D13 · E11 =D13 · fill E11:H11 → · D16 =D8+D13 · D17 =D9+D14 · fill D16:H17 → · alt h b p · ctrl+s
