Run accretion / dilution
the drag is what cash costs and the share count is what stock costs — one anchored column prices both.
The MD wants the accretion read before the 8am call, and she wants it at all three ways the financing team has offered to pay — all cash, part cash part stock, all stock. Accretion is just whether the deal lifts earnings per share: pro forma EPS against the acquirer’s own. Do not lose the drag — cash spent on the deal stops earning interest, and that foregone interest comes out of pro forma income before you divide. Land the read under every structure.
The shortcuts in this drill
Ctrl+Shift+↓⌘⇧↓ on macExtend selection to the edge of data
Select from here to the edge of the data — the standard grab before formatting or filling a column.
Shift+→⇧→ on macExtend selection one cell
Nudge a selection one cell at a time when the block you need doesn’t end at a data edge.
Ctrl+R⌘R on macFill right from the cell to the left
Same as fill down, but across — one quarter’s formula becomes the whole year in two keystrokes.
Ctrl+1⌘1 on macOpen the Format Cells dialog
The master formatting dialog — number formats, alignment, borders in one place when a ribbon walk would take longer.
functions you'll type: SUM()
The optimal line
the par-setting sequence, straight through:
the drag on C7 → =-C5*$C$19 · income =SUM($C$14:$C$16)+C7 · shares =$C$17+C6 · EPS =C8/C9 · accretion =C10/$C$18-1 · ctrl+shift+↓ then shift+→ grabs the block · ctrl+r · ctrl+1 p · ctrl+s
